Why use sustainably sourced Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) Fish?
Our founder Karl spent the last 15 years working within a global seafood business which provided exposure to international seafood markets. During this time Karl got to witness first-hand the essential work that the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) do across global fisheries ensuring the protection and longevity of not only fish species and fisheries but also the livelihoods that depend on them. Karl previously worked directly with MSC selling sustainably sourced seafood within international markets so when Karl decided to set up his own pet food business it was inevitable that the seafood used would be sustainably sourced.
So sustainably sourced fish is something that FishDish are serious about, which is why all our fish is sourced directly from MSC certified fisheries. We want to ensure the sustainability of our fish species and protect fishery associated jobs for future generations.
What does the blue MSC label mean?
It simply means that only fish and seafood that is considered wild, traceable and sustainable can use this label. The blue fish label is only applied to wild fish or seafood sourced from fisheries that have been certified to the MSC Fisheries Standard. Each MSC certified fishery has been independently assessed on its specific impacts to wild fish populations and the ecosystems they’re part of. FishDish are extremely proud to have the blue eco label on our range of Crunchy Cod natural dog snacks.
How does MSC work?
The MSC fisheries standard has three core principles that every fishery must meet.
- Sustainable fish stocks
Are enough fish left in the ocean? Fishing must be at a level that ensures it can continue indefinitely and the fish population can remain productive and healthy.
- Minimising environmental impact
What are the impacts? Fishing activity must be managed carefully so that other species and habitats within the ecosystem remain healthy.
- Effective fisheries management
Are operations well managed? MSC certified fisheries must comply with relevant laws and be able to adapt to changing environmental circumstances.
FishDish are proud of our commitment to protecting our environment by ensuring all our fish is sourced from MSC Fisheries. Our fish is fully traceable from ‘Sea to Shelf’ ensuring our customers complete transparency in our sustainable supply chain.
Regular DNA testing ensures that MSC labelled products are correctly labelled. Consumers can trust that the fish is what its packaging says it is, which for FishDish is 100% sustainably sourced Atlantic Cod, that’s it!
